MESSAGE FROM ISE CHAIR: DR. SHIH-MING LEE

Welcome...
The Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at Florida International University prepares students to be productive citizens, industrial leaders, and technological innovators in a global society. The department recognizes the need to continually enhance the quality of our programs to ensure a well-balanced education; promotes teamwork; and emphasizes systems concepts. In addition, the department enjoys strong ties with local industry, government agencies, and the community. From the inception of the department, we stress the importance of hands-on experience and teamwork spirits. Six well-maintained laboratories provide the utmost learning environment. Real-world projects, solicited from local industry, are part of our curriculum. We have a history of meeting society's technology needs. The department, with its dedicated faculty, renovated facilities and state-of-the-art equipment, continues to attract external research funding. As a result, teaching and research have become integrated. We have actively pursued implementation of a Ph.D. program, and we achieved our goal in Fall 2003. The Ph D program is expected to produce its first PhD in Spring 2005. With these strengths in mind, we proudly welcome you, and encourage you to explore our department and its programs, research projects, and faculty.
